Peruvian pianist, composer, arranger, and educator Víctor Sotomayor creates original music rooted in jazz and inspired by the musical traditions of Peru. Originally from Arequipa, his work explores questions of cultural memory, identity, and migration through composition and improvisation.

Sotomayor holds degrees in Classical Piano, Composition, and Jazz Performance, and is currently pursuing graduate studies in the United States. He is the co-founder of Misti Music & Education, an organization dedicated to promoting Peruvian music, jazz, and arts education through performances, educational programs, and cross- cultural collaborations.

Drawing inspiration from Andean music, Afro-Peruvian rhythms, and the Peruvian vals, Sotomayor develops an original musical language that reimagines these traditions rather than quoting them directly.
